Q&A with Dominique!
Our NAU Social Work Intern
What did you think was going to be interesting about interning with CSCAZ?
I don’t have a lot of experience with people who have cancer and the cancer community, so being able to become educated in an area I have almost no experience with was what initially drew me to CSCAZ. As I am learning about CSCAZ, I am not only becoming aware of what cancer is and what it involves, but also all of the different programs that CSCAZ offers, how many people it takes to put together these programs, and the overwhelming sense of love, respect, and community that is shown.
What makes social work so exciting to you?
One thing I really love about Social Work is all the different areas I can go into. I can work in so many different settings, and with people of every age and population. I also love that I can grow as a person and become aware to new social problems, and how I can help eliminate those problems.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am a book worm! My dad and older sister both love to read, so we are always recommending books to each other. Whenever I am home visiting family, my nephews, who are 7, love to go on bike rides so that is one of my favorite things to do whenever I get to spend time with them.
What makes you laugh hard?
Awkward situations! For whatever reason I can’t help but laugh when I’m in a room with people and no one knows what to say, and everyone is waiting for someone to speak up, so they don’t have to. I think someone acknowledging that there is an awkward situation makes everyone relax a little and can lighten up the mood.
